Case Library & Geyer Center for Information Technology Services
The Case Library and Geyer Center for Information Technology opened in March 2007. The Case library serves the arts and humanities, social sciences, interdisciplinary areas, and university studies. The Geyer Center for Information Technology serves the computing and technology needs of the entire Colgate community. The five-story, 151,000-square-foot structure brings together the university’s print, media, and digital resources. The result is an interactive, user-friendly facility supporting the collaborative learning central to study in the liberal arts. Case-Geyer’s atrium and many windows provide natural light throughout the building. Four large reading rooms provide vistas of the beautiful Colgate campus.

The Picker classroom is used for library instruction sessions. When not in use, this space is open for student use without an appointment. The schedule for each day will be posted outside the door.
New books are located here and rotated frequently. If the book you are looking for was published in the last year, check these shelves first before searching for your book on levels 2 or 4. New acquisition lists are created monthly and can be accessed online.

The level five Learning Commons provides a wide array of user spaces including a café, 24-hour study space, service desk, Batza Meeting Room, Cronin Learning Lab, Grover-Hargrove Digital Learning and Media Center, group study rooms, seminar rooms, and a reading room with a beautiful view of Payne Brook and Taylor Lake.
The ITS Research and High-Performance Computing team provides support and engagement for researchers at Colgate throughout the research lifecycle.
Level 4 provides a variety of study spaces, current periodicals, and books in LC classes J-L,N-Z. The offices for Information Technology Services are also located on this floor.
On the level three main corridor, staff members provide user assistance at the Circulation Desk, Research Services Help Desk, and IT Service Desk. Resources along “main street” include the reference collection, books in LC class M, computers, scanners, printers, photocopiers and microform reader-printers.
LASR currently holds over 370,000 items such as lower use books, all bound periodicals VHS tapes, DVDs, vinyl records, tapes, CDs, and microfilms.
Special Collections and University Archives on level two houses major collections on Joseph Conrad and George Bernard Shaw, rare books, historical and biographical materials relating to alumni and faculty, and significant collections of Hamilton and Madison County history. Level two includes study spaces and the books in LC classes A-H.
Colgate's Library Automated Storage Retrieval System is LASR, the vault containing LASR is three stories high and around a hundred and fifteen feet long LASR has the capacity of holding 550,000 volumes and over 4,000 bins.
Computer kiosks can be found throughout the library. Kiosks make it easy to search for book call numbers, journal articles, etc.
Although many magazine and journal articles are now available online through the library databases, some titles are still available in print. The most current issue of each title is displayed on the periodicals shelf. To access recent issues, lift the shelf. Search the library catalog for the location of older issues.
Recycling bins are located at strategic places in the library. Covered drinks are allowed throughout the library, but food should be restricted to level 5, where the Hieber Cafe is located.
These study carrels are reserved for senior thesis students. Senior thesis carrels are assigned by lottery at the beginning of each semester.

3D Printing Stations
These printers are available for use by Colgate community members during open library hours.
Books with call numbers that begin with letters J through Z are shelved on level 4. Bring books to the Borrowing Services desk on level 3 to check them out.
Step behind this ordinary door to gaze into the heart of LASR (Library Automated Storage Retrieval System)! Two robotic arms operate at 40 miles per hour to move items you request via the catalog from storage bins to the Borrowing Services desk in mere minutes. If your book or periodical doesn’t live in the stacks, it might just live in LASR.

A Space for Projects
The Anita Grover MD ’74 and Tom Hargrove P’14 Digital Learning and Media Center (DLMC) supports course-based projects ranging from video narratives (digital storytelling) to podcasts, mapping projects, webpage and site design, and more.
Colgate has been a federal government depository library since 1902. The moveable shelves on level 1 house our physical government document collection, including historical documents. Books that can be checked out are shelved on Levels 2, 3, and 4. The books are arranged by call numbers beginning with one or more letters. Call numbers that begin with letters A - H are located on level 2; letter M is located on level 3; letters J - Z are located on level 4. (Many books on science-related topics are located in the Cooley library in McGregory Hall.)
